Clippers sign guard Brevin Knight
Los Angeles - Seeking to beef up their backcourt, the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday signed journeyman guard Brevin Knight. "Brevin is one of the better defensive point guards in the league," said Clippers' vice president of basketball operations Elgin Baylor, who announced the free-agent signing.
"He's also a gifted floor leader with a great assist-to-turnover ratio. We like that he is good at running the offence and that he always looks to get his teammates involved."
Knight is expected to back up 37-year-old floor leader Sam Cassell, who was hampered by nagging injuries last season. Sam Cassell's prospective successor, Shaun Livingston, is still recovering from major knee surgery that may force him to miss the entire 2007-08 season.
A 10-year NBA veteran, the 31-year-old Knight will be playing for his eighth team. Last season, he averaged 9.1 points, 6.6 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 45 games for the Charlotte Bobcats.
In his career, the 5-foot-10 Knight owns averages of 8.3 points, 6.8 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game with Cleveland, Atlanta, Memphis, Phoenix, Washington and Miami.
