West Regional: Kansas 61 Southern Illinois 58
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ The Kansas Jayhawks are on the brink of going to the Final four. Brandon Rush scored 12 points without missing a shot and Kansas eked out a 61-to-58 victory over Southern Illinois in the West Regional semifinals.
Darrell Arthur and Russell Robinson scored nine points apiece to help the 27-and-4 Jayhawks avoid the upset. Kansas won its 14th straight game by nursing a small lead through the final minutes against a defense that made the Jayhawks work for every basket.
Jamaal Tatum scored 19 points in his final college game for the fourth-seeded Salukis, who wind up 28-and-7.
West Regional: U-C-L-A 64 Pittsburgh 55
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ Arron Afflalo (AHF'-uh-loh) made all ten of his free throws and U-C-L-A shot 23-for-26 from the line to knock off Pittsburgh 64-to-55 in the West Regional semifinals.
The defensive struggle was decided at the free-throw line. The second-seeded Bruins were able to win at the line, scoring 12 of their final 18 points on foul shots to advance to play Kansas in Saturday's regional final in a matchup of two of college basketball's most storied teams. The top-seeded Jayhawks beat Southern Illinois 61-58 in the first game in San Jose.
Afflalo finished with 17 points. Josh Shipp added 16 and Darren Collison had 12 as the Bruins advanced to regional finals in consecutive years for the first time since 1979-80.
Pitt finished 29-and-8.
South Regional: Memphis 65 Texas A-and-M 64
SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ The Memphis Tigers are one win away from the N-C-A-A Final Four because of their free-throw shooting.
Forget those season-long struggles from the free throw line. The Tigers are making them when it counts. Antonio Anderson made two with three-point-one seconds left for a 65-to-64 victory over Texas A-and-M in the N-C-A-A South Regional. That's the Tigers' 25th straight win.
Anderson came in shooting 64 percent from the free throw line. He was one-for-four when he went to the line and calmly made both.
The Tigers advanced to a regional final for the second straight year. The Tigers last went to the Final Four in 1985. They will play Ohio State Saturday.
Texas A-and-M finishes 27-and-7. Acie Law had 13 points but was six-of-17 from the field in his final game for the Aggies.
South Regional: Ohio State 85 Tennessee 84
SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Ohio State put on a frantic rally from 20 points down and Greg Oden saved the Buckeyes with a last-second block that propelled them past Tennessee, 85-to-84, in the South Regional semifinal.
Senior Ron Lewis scored 25 points and freshman Mike Conley had nine of his 17 from the foul line, including the winner with six-point-five seconds left.
But Conley missed a second shot, giving Tennessee one last chance. Ramar Smith grabbed the rebound and went all the way to the rim.
Then it was Oden to the rescue, swatting the ball into the Volunteers' cheerleaders and dropping back to earth himself with his biggest smile of the night.
Ohio State plays Memphis in Saturday's South Regional final and a trip to the Final Four.
